Five activities that you can do in autumn – for free

Here are five tips how you can make autumn feel special by slowing down and connecting with yourselves and others.

1. Cook with seasonal ingredients

Make something simple with what you already have at home, for example a pumpkin soup or baked apples with cinnamon. Autumn is the perfect time to slow down and find comfort in warm, homemade food. You can also invite a friend over – sharing food is one of the simplest ways to feel connected.

2. Go for a walk in nature

Grab your phone and leave the house for a short walk in nature. You can listen to music or to a podcast while you get your steps in. Are you up for a challenge? Then leave your phone at home and enjoy the sound of your steps and the crisp air. I personally love the feeling when I can stand on freshly fallen leaves – it makes my inner child happy.

3. Journaling

You can reflect on your day or even on the whole year. It’s up to you if you use a notebook, the notes app on your phone or if you record yourself. Don’t overthink it, it doesn’t have to be perfect. If you don’t know where to start or want to write how you feel then just list three things you’re grateful for.

4. Reading a book (again)

There are certain books that deserve a permanent place on my bookshelf, and I sometimes like to reread them. But there are also a lot of unread books just waiting for me to open and get lost in them. Autumn and reading books go hand in hand. Not a book lover? I’m sure you have a comfort movie or series that you like to rewatch. Now is the perfect time.

5. Write letters to your friends

Who doesn’t love to receive letters? When we open the mailbox nowadays, we expect the usual: bills and some advertising. Imagine the look on your friends’ face when they receive a thoughtful letter from you. Your letter doesn’t have to be long – a few words are enough. There is something special about receiving letters, but I also find it is even more special to write them.

Let me know which activity you would like to try out and if that post was helpful.

Warm wishes
