On Instagram I asked you if I should dive deeper into the topic of “reflection”. The answer was yes, and I was planning to write about it today. However, Christmas is around the corner, and you see advertisements of overpriced Advent calendars, gift guides and endless ad’s telling us what we should buy for our loved ones.
It got me thinking: before we rush into shopping and ticking boxes we could take a step back. Do you ever think about why you give gifts? Is it because you WANT to or is it because someone showed the item in their Instagram story? Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love buying gifts for my friends and family. It’s one of my love languages and to be honest, I also love to receive something that I had my eyes on for a long time anyway. I mean, who doesn’t? I’m not saying that you should not buy anything and become the Grinch for Christmas. I simply invite you to make more conscious choices that are beneficial for your peace of mind and your wallet. Obviously.
And maybe this idea of reflection starts with something surprisingly small: like the way we think about Advent itself. Do you remember the postcard Advent calendar? Flat printed cards, beautifully illustrated with numbered windows tucked into the artwork. Behind each door you didn’t find a nail polish, perfume or some clutter. There were pictures of a candle, angel or a star. So simple but a mindful ritual that invited us to pause and not consume. This year I not only got one, but two of these beautiful Advent calendars and I’m very excited about this unexpected gift.

What I’m trying to say is: Christmas doesn’t have to be expensive to be meaningful. If you are still looking for some Christmas gift inspiration, that won’t drain your bank account here are 5 simple inexpensive gift ideas:
1. Bake something
Homemade cookies, brownies, granola or jam. Packaged in a glass jar and there you have your thoughtful gift.
2. Sew something
A nice scrunchie for the hair, a tote-bag, a fabric bookmark. Tiny projects but they feel personal.
3. A handwritten letter
You surely knew I was gonna mention this. Add a small sketch or stickers if you like.
4. A shared moment
A voucher for a coffee date, winter walk or a move night. Time together is one of the best gifts.
5. Tiny care-bag
A candle, a handwritten note, a printed photo. These things cost almost nothing, but when you combine them they feel very thoughtful.
If you’re looking for a little extra inspiration throughout December – feel free to join me on Instagram @karavoli. I’ll be sharing a tiny reminder or affirmation every day in my Stories. A small digital Advent Calendar if you will 😊
And I guess, in the end, I did end up writing about reflection after all – did you notice it too?
Warm wishes
