Hey there
The Christmas and New Year’s celebrations are over, and daily life has taken over. I hope you had a wonderful time and that you enjoyed lots of good food. I did not feel inspired to write something on here although I had a goal of writing a blogpost every week. Instead of beating myself up about it and just never looking at my blog again, I’m continuing to share my thoughts with you in hope it may help or inspire someone.
Can I be completely honest for a few seconds? I am ashamed of how much time I’ve spent on my phone during these past few weeks. For me, Christmas and New Year’s are a time for reconnecting and reflecting. Don’t get me wrong, I did both of those, but I spent an ungodly amount of time just training my thumb as I was scrolling on social media. And do I remember any of the content I consumed during that time? No. I don’t.
So instead of having New Years Resolutions that are very unrealistic I want to share things I want to focus more on in 2026 that don’t involve a screen. I am ready to reconnect with myself and the real world and I hope you are too.
Here are five non-digital, creative hobbies:
Learning an instrument
Even if it’s just one song. Research shows that learning a new instrument improves cognitive abilities, memory and concentration. Who doesn’t want more of that? Just imagine the look on your crushes face when you can play their favorite song on the guitar or piano. Did you know that your voice is an instrument too? And before you come at me and say: “But I can’t sing”, I want to tell you: “You absolutely can, you just need a little bit of practice”.
Reading
I only own physical books, so that is an easy one. There are so many unread books on my bookshelf. I have even thought about starting a book club. Is that even still a thing nowadays? Let me know on Instagram if you would like to join a book club.
Cooking and baking
Trying out new and old recipes just makes me happy. There is almost no greater feeling than baking a cake just because you can and then share it with friends and family. Or don’t share it. I would understand 😊
Basic DIY crafts
Personally, I am not very skilled (yet) when it comes to sewing or fixing something. But how satisfying is it when you can create something beautiful or don’t have to call your partner to fix something for you? It makes me feel like a capable adult.
Game nights with friends
When was the last time you sat down with your friends and just interacted with each other without sharing Reels or Memes on your phone? Every two months, I’d love to meet up with my friends and remind them who’s boss at our favorite board games.
Maybe 2026 doesn’t need a new me (or you) – just a little more presence, creativity and real connection.
Warm wishes
